NDC Zones 2027 Presidential Ticket To South For Single Four-Year Term, 2031 To North

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has announced that its presidential ticket for the 2027 election has been allocated to the southern part of the country.

The decision was made during the party’s national convention held in Abuja on Saturday, May 9, 2026.

The party confirmed the arrangement publicly, stating that the presidential candidate will emerge from the South and will serve a single four-year term if elected.

It also added that the ticket would move to the northern region in 2031 as part of a rotational agreement within the party.

During the same convention, members also approved the full list of the party’s national executive committee following a motion presented by Senator Victor Umeh.

The convention brought together key political figures, including Peter Obi and Musa Rabiu Kwankwaso, along with other party leaders.

The zoning decision follows the party’s plan to ensure power rotation between the North and South in future presidential elections.

Earlier, political associate of Rabiu Kwankwaso, Buba Galadima, had confirmed that the ticket had already been assigned to the South, stressing that the party would conduct open primaries instead of selecting a consensus candidate.

Although there were earlier denials from the party about any finalized zoning agreement, the latest decision now confirms the arrangement.

The move also aligns with calls from Peter Obi for fair regional power rotation, as opposition groups continue to reposition ahead of the 2027 elections.
