“Nigeria Is Dead, You’re Poor If You Earn In Naira” – Pastor Paul Adefarsin [Video]

Paul Adefarasin, senior pastor of the House on the Rock Church, has lamented about Nigeria’s current economic situation, describing the country as being “dead and rotten”.

During a sermon on May 17 titled “Becoming Who God Says You Can Be: The Sequel,” the cleric urged Nigerians, especially Christians, to take responsibility for rebuilding the nation and becoming agents of change.

He told his audience that although Nigeria has great potential compared to many countries, it is currently struggling and in a critical condition.

According to him, only divine intervention, combined with action from committed citizens, can turn things around.

Pastor Paul Adefarasin said, “We need you to become agent. That’s what you are here for.

“We have a country that has more potential than 99 per cent of countries in the face of the earth. But it is dying and its been dying. It is in comatose now and its body is rotten.

“And If anybody can resurrect it, it is the kingdom of heaven. But we need agency, system, kingdom citizens, those who would go and do what is impossible.”

The pastor also expressed concern over the weakening of the Naira, saying Nigeria’s currency has lost so much value that it has affected the worth of its people and made the nation more vulnerable to exploitation from outside.

Reflecting on the past, he compared the value of the naira decades ago to what it is today, noting that money once had far greater purchasing power.

Adefarasin said, “Nigeria is dead. Let us not deceive ourselves. Let me tell you something, once you are counting in naira you are poor.

“I was not born poor. My father’s last salary in 1970 or 80s, I cannot remember when it was, was about N18,000. That was money.”

“How much is N1.4 billion naira today in dollars? Only $1 million. Do you know what a billion naira was when I was 15, 16? It was $2.8 billion and we are taking it. Because we live in the now.

“We didn’t study history. They erased it out of our education system. And we don’t research data to project what our tomorrow will look like. We are not doing the critical thinking. So we have no combatant against our subconscious foolishness that determines our behaviour.”

The cleric further criticised some Christians in public office, accusing them of pursuing personal gain instead of serving the public.

He encouraged believers to focus on building wealth in a responsible and godly way, which he said could help drive national development.
