“I’ve Always Wanted To Collaborate With Burna Boy” — Shakira On World Cup Song

Colombian superstar Shakira has spoken about working with Nigerian singer Burna Boy on “Dai Dai,” one of the songs featured on the official album for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Shakira said she had long hoped to collaborate with Burna Boy and was excited when the opportunity finally came.

The song focuses on perseverance, courage, and believing in yourself despite challenges.

Speaking in an interview with People magazine, Shakira explained that creating the track came naturally.

She said developing the melody, lyrics, and overall idea was straightforward, while Burna Boy’s contribution added something special to the final result.

It was very easy to come up with the melody, the lyrics, the concept, and then obviously when I had Burna Boy recorded, that was like the cherry on top. I always wanted to do something with Burna, and I think that his voice just takes it to another level,” she said.

Shakira also stressed that “Dai Dai” is more than just a football anthem.

She said the song was created to inspire children around the world, especially those who have been told their goals are unrealistic or impossible.

The song is much more than a World Cup song. It is a message for every child who has been told that their dream is too big, and a reminder that every champion was once a child who may have gone through hardship and struggle. There was always someone behind that child who believed in them, and that is why they did not give up,” she added.

“This is what we need to do as a society. We must do our best to provide children with opportunities so they can achieve their goals in life, and the most valuable of those opportunities is education.

“That is why this song was created, not only for the World Cup but also for all of those children who do not have access to quality education. This is a very important World Cup because it will serve as a platform for those kids who don’t have the voice and visibility.

“At a time when the world feels divided and the algorithm manipulates is all, it is important that we come together, focus on children, and place them at the centre of the conversation and make them the real protagonist here.”
