DSS Seeks To Delay Omoyele Sowore’s Trial Until After 2027 Elections

The Department of State Services (DSS) has instructed its lawyer to ask the Federal High Court to postpone the cybercrime trial involving Omoyele Sowore until after the 2027 elections.

A DSS source told TheCable that the move is aimed at allowing Sowore, who is the African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate, to take part fully in the election without disruptions.

The presidential and National Assembly elections are scheduled for January 16, 2027.

According to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) timetable, campaigns officially began on August 19, 2026.

The source said DSS Director-General Tosin Ajayi held a meeting with the agency’s counsel, Akinlolu Kehinde, and officials from the legal directorate on August 20 to discuss the case.

“The DSS boss reportedly told the senior advocate and his directorate of legal services that, with the commencement of presidential campaigns, it would only be fair to adjourn the court case in order to enable Sowore fully participate in the upcoming elections without let or hindrance,” the source said.

“He added that, since the matter had been in court for nearly a year, suspending it for another few months wouldn’t make much difference.”

The source said that the DSS is expected to officially inform the Federal High Court of its position when the matter comes up on September 14.

It was gathered that the DSS is examining other court cases involving people seeking elective positions in the 2027 elections.

KanyiDaily recalls that Omoyele Sowore was arraigned by the DSS over social media posts, where he described President Bola Tinubu as a “criminal.”
