Two Confirmed Dead As Machete-Wielding Man Attacks IMAX Cinema In Lagos

Two people have died following an attack at the IMAX cinema in Lekki, Lagos State, on Friday night.

According to eyewitnesses, a man armed with a machete and knife arrived at the cinema and tried to gain entry.

It was gathered that security guards stopped him at the entrance.

Police spokesperson SP Adebisi Abimbola confirmed the incident, saying the suspect, who appeared to be a homeless man and possibly under the influence of drugs, allegedly attacked the security personnel.

She said one security guard was fatally stabbed, while another sustained injuries during the incident.

Abimbola added that the suspect was subsequently attacked by a mob and died from the injuries he sustained.

The police have taken the cinema’s Chief Security Officer into custody as part of the investigation.

Authorities are also working to obtain and examine CCTV recordings from the cinema to determine what happened and establish whether anyone else was involved.

The police said a full investigation into the incident is ongoing.
