A woman, Mrs Iyabo Sowunmi has been arrested for allegedly attempting to take a substance suspected to be a psychoactive drug into the Medium Security Custodial Centre in Ibara, Abeokuta, Ogun State.

The Nigeria Correctional Service, Ogun State Command, confirmed the arrest in a statement signed by its Public Relations Officer, Odukoya Olayinka.

Olayinka said the woman was arrested around 1:33 p.m. on Friday, August 28, 2026, during routine checks at the entrance of the correctional facility.

He said she had gone to visit an inmate, Dare Sowunmi, who is on death row when officers found a sachet of Milo beverage containing a substance suspected to be “colos.”

The suspected contraband was discovered during the regular screening of visitors at the main entrance.

The discovery underscored the vigilance of our personnel and our commitment to preventing illicit substances and other prohibited items from entering custodial facilities,” he said

“Following her arrest, she was handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency for further investigation and possible prosecution, in accordance with established procedures”
