Okonkwo made the statement during an interview with Ibeju Upgrade Media, where he also questioned Peter Obi’s ability to defeat Tinubu on his own.
Efforts by opposition groups to agree on a common platform for the 2027 election faced setbacks in 2025, as major contenders such as Obi and Atiku emerged as presidential candidates under different parties.
However, a group known as the G100 Opposition Coalition, led by ADC chieftain Salihu Lukman, has renewed efforts to bring opposition parties together and support one candidate against the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
In his remarks, Kenneth Okonkwo argued that a united opposition remains the best chance of removing Tinubu from power.
He said Peter Obi would struggle to defeat Tinubu if he contests alone, even with former Kano State governor Rabiu Kwankwaso as his running mate.
“Coalition is the only way out. So you don’t come down with a man who has told you from the beginning that power is not taken à la carte; you fight for it, you grab it, you snatch it, you run away with it,” Okonkwo said, referring to Tinubu.
“So, if Peter Obi goes against Tinubu alone, Tinubu will eat him like biscuits. Will Kano people accept Peter Obi? In 2023, when we had the opportunity, they did not accept him. In 2027, they will not accept him.
“Kwankwaso has nothing to contribute to the ticket. Even in Kano, Kwankwaso has lost.”
