Two More Rivers Lawmakers Withdraw Support For Fubara’s Impeachment

The bid to impeach Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Ngozi Odu, has taken another hit following the withdrawal of support by two additional lawmakers.

The lawmakers, Barile Nwakoh of Khana Constituency I and Emilia Amadi of Obio/Akpor Constituency II, announced their decision and appealed for a peaceful way to resolve the ongoing political crisis in the state.

Their withdrawal came just two days after two other members of the Rivers State House of Assembly stepped back from the impeachment move.

While both lawmakers said there may have been constitutional issues involving the governor and his deputy, they explained that respected leaders and stakeholders had intervened, urging calm and restraint to protect peace and stability in Rivers.

With this latest development, four out of the 26 lawmakers who initially supported the impeachment notice have now pulled out, suggesting a growing push within the Assembly for dialogue instead of confrontation.

The House of Assembly is expected to resume plenary on January 15, 2026, as attention turns to how its leadership will manage the widening divisions among lawmakers.

Earlier, Minority Leader Sylvanus Nwankwo, who represents Omuma Constituency, and Peter Abbey of Degema Constituency had also announced their exit from the impeachment process during a press conference in Port Harcourt.

They had called on their colleagues to consider other ways of settling the political dispute, warning that prolonged tension could further disrupt governance in the state.
