South Africa came under heavy criticism on social media after losing 2-0 to Mexico in its opening match of the tournament on Thursday night.

The defeat triggered widespread jokes, mockery, and negative comments from users across different platforms.

The reactions have drawn attention because of past tensions involving xenophobic attacks in South Africa, where migrants from several African nations, including Nigeria and Ghana, were targeted. Those incidents forced many foreign nationals to leave the country and return home.

Despite the history of conflict, Michael Blackson encouraged Africans to put aside their differences and avoid fueling further division.

He stressed the importance of standing together as one continent rather than celebrating each other’s setbacks.

According to him, African nations should promote peace, unity, and mutual respect, especially during moments that could easily create more tension among people across the continent.
