CUSTODIANS of the law who turn to breach it may not always go free as an upper Area High Court sitting in Buruku, Benue State and presided over by Acting Sole Judge, Mrs. Kpadoo Chia, has sentenced the District Head of Mbalaagh in Buruku Local Council Area, Zaki Toryila Nyitse, to three months’ imprisonment for marrying another man’s wife.
The judge said the punishment was to serve as deterrent to the convict who is a custodian and stakeholder of the Tiv culture.
She held that there was actually evidence that the said woman had four children for the complainant, stating that the story by the accused that he was the first husband of the lady was not true.
The judge maintained that the law must continue to catch up with those who disrupt family life by deliberately putting injury on such a person, stressing that if people were allowed to marry in that way, there would be no law in society
