Senator Danjuma Goje has announced his withdrawal from the 9th Senate Presidency election billed to hold on June 11.
The senator from Gombe State is said to have declared his support for his former rival and All Progressives Congress (APC) adopted candidate for the position, Senator Ahmed Lawan (Yobe North).
The two senators, Goje and Lawan, had earlier met with President Muhammadu Buhari behind closed doors at the Presidential Villa.
Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, who was at the meeting of the two senators with President Muhammadu Buhari, made this known to State House correspondents soon after the meeting.
The Senior Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly Matters, Senator Ita Enang, was reported to have been part of the meeting.
Ahmed will now have to battle for the seat with Senator Ali Ndume, who had insisted to run for the position against his APC’s party adoption of Lawan as their preferred candidate to be the Senate President of the 9th National Assembly.
