Ogun Governor, Dapo Abiodun Extends COVID-19 Lockdown By One Week

Ogun Government has extended the COVID-19 lockdown in the state by one week.

Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun has extended the coronavirus lockdown in the state by one week, meaning the movement restriction will now officially end on May 9, 2020.

Governor Abiodun, who disclosed this on Friday at a press conference he addressed at the Okemosan Governor’s office, also extended the relaxation period from seven to 10 hours.

He said that the extension of the lockdown by one week, was to compensate for the initial one week grace President Muammadu Buhari granted the state before the lockdown order became effective when it was first pronounced one month ago.

KanyiDaily recalls that Buhari had in his presidential broadcast announced a curfew to be imposed on Ogun, Lagos and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) between 8pm and 6am from May 4.

However, Abiodun explained that the lockdown in Ogun has been extended to May 9, and it would be relaxed gradually through the 10-hour relaxation window.

“In line with Mr President’s address to the entire nation, the lockdown is still in place.

“However, the lockdown will begin to be relaxed gradually and in phases from Monday, May 4, in consideration of the peculiarity of the different states.

“To this end, our relaxation window remains Monday, May 4, Wednesday, May 6, and Friday, May 8. The new time frame will, however, now be from 7am to 5pm on those days.

“This will give our people ample time to conduct necessary economic activities and to get to their various homes before the commencement of the daily curfew as directed by Mr President.

“For the avoidance of doubt, the curfew is from 8pm to 6am every day and will be strictly enforced.”

According to Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) on Friday night, Ogun confirmed cases of coronavirus increased to 57 as total number of infection in the country rises to 2170.
