Dbanj’s Rαpe Allegation: We Never Detained Seyitan, She Declined Our Invitations 3 Times – Police

The Nigerian Police Force has said that Seyitan Babatayo, the lady who accused singer D’banj of rape, was not arrested or detained by them as claimed.

KanyiDaily recalls that on Wednesday, June 3, 2020, Seyitan narrated how Dbanj raped her during an all-white party in 2018, at Glee hotel in Victoria Island, Lagos State.

The 50-year-old singer has since then denied the rape allegations and asked his accuser to make a public apology published in four national dailies and also pay him the sum of N100 million in damages.

On June 25, 2020, the Nigerian Police Force disclosed it had invited D’banj and Seyitan for interrogation over the rape allegation.

Seyitan later issued an official statement on social media saying she was detained by the police when she went to give a complaints against the singer.

However, a police source who spoke with Vanguard, said Seyitan was only invited to give her written statement and be interrogated. Adding that, there may have been a mix up by her legal representative.

The source said that both Seyitan and D’banj were invited to come and give statement at the Force Criminal Investigation Department, FCID, in Abuja.

D’banj reported on three separate occasions at FCID for interrogation and statement, while Seyitan repeatedly refused to show up on those three times.

Her alleged non-appearance led to the prompt dispatch of officers by the Force CID to Lagos, to invite her for written statement and interrogation on the alleged rape incident.

The police source said that having made the allegation, it was necessary for Seyitan to come forward to give a statement to back up her accusation which she has not done hence detectives were sent to Lagos to get her statement.

Meanwhile, D’Banj has continued to maintain his innocence as could be seen in a video shared on his Instagram page, where he was dancing and singing along to his 2008 hit single “Olorun Maje”.
