Yobe Government Rewards Commercial Driver For Returning Lost N1.3 Million To Owner [Photos]

The driver returned the money despite finding it very difficult to afford three square meals for his family and always unable to provide for his children’s education.

Yobe State Government has rewarded a commercial driver, Malam Umar Kiri, with cash and food items for honestly returning the sum of N1,380,000 to its rightful owner.

According to reports, Malam Kiri reported himself to the authorities afer he found the money in a bag beside the road while on transit from Damaturu to Gashua.

It was gathered that the old hardworking driver depends only on commercial driving as his means of livelihood with one wife, six children and two elderly dependents.

Malam Kiri sometimes finds it very difficult to afford three square meals for his family and always unable to provide for his children’s education.

But despite his financial challenges, Kari chose to remain an honest man even when he had the opportunity to enrich himself fraudulently.

It was in recognition of this rare sterling quality that Network for Yobe Civil Society Organisations, (NYCSO), identified Malam Kiri and presented to him an Award of Excellence as “AMBASSADOR OF HONESTY AND CONTENTMENT”.

Similarly, Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni has in the interim provided cash support and food items to sustain Mal. Kiri’s household for at least 6 months for his rare show of honesty and integrity.

The cash support and food palliatives were handed over to Kiri through the Northeast Development Commission, Yobe State Focal Person/Coordinator, Dr. Ali Ibrahim Abbas on behalf of the Governor.

Comrade Baba Shehu, the Executive Director of NYCSO alongside his entire team witnessed the handing over of the support to Mal. Kiri.

The beneficiary appreciated Gov. Buni and NYCSO for the support, saying the gesture has further encouraged him to uphold firmly the tenets of honesty, integrity and to be God-fearing in all his endeavors.

This is coming barely three days after a woman identified as Josephine Nchetaka Chukwujama-Eze was rewarded with N1 million after she refunded the N13 million mistakenly paid into her bank account in Enugu State.
