Huge fire at port of Beirut Lebanon just weeks after deadly explosion

A large fire has broken out at the port of Beirut in Lebanon, among the rubble of the deadly blast that killed over 200 people and injured over 6000 last month.

This latest fire comes as a shock to residents who are still recovering from the horrific port explosion that devastated the city last month.

The extent and cause of the fire were not immediately clear, but the Lebanese Army said in a statement on Twitter that the fire began at a duty free warehouse where oil and tires were stored.

The warehouse was damaged in the previous explosion last month. The fire today started in the teetering skeleton of one of the remaining buildings.

Videos taken at the scene show flames engulfing an already damaged warehouse in the port and a thick plume of black smoke rising from the area.

Efforts are underway to extinguish the fire.

The incident comes up just few weeks after the massive Beirut blast that killed more than 170 people and injured more than 6,000 others.
