Armed Bandits Invades Zamfara Community, Kills 20 People Including Women And Children

Bandits have killed killed 20 people in Zamfara state.

At least 20 people including women and children were killed on Tuesday by armed bandits in Tungar Kwana village in Talata Mafara local government area of Zamfara State.

Residents from the village said that the armed men arrived the community on motorbikes after blocking the community’s entry and exit points before unleashing terror on the defenceless residents.

“We recovered about 20 bodies after the attack and many more residents have not been accounted for. They came around 11pm and opened fire on the village, shooting anyone on sight and burning houses.

“It was a well planned and coordinated attack; they also stole many livestock, foodstuff and escaped to the forest,” a resident said.

Another resident, identified as Halilu Adamu said that the armed bandits were retaliating what they called the residents’ disclosure of their hideouts to troops that carried out massive operations around their enclave last week.

“The victims had already been buried most of the residents have fled the community. We are appealing for the deployment of more security personnel to the area, ” he said.

Zamfara police spokesperson, Mohammed Shehu, who confirmed the incident, said that 20 people were killed by bandits who see the rural residents as informants for the security agencies.

“The gunmen see the villagers as a soft target to avenge the ongoing offensive against them. The area is calm as more security personnel are deployed, and the criminals would be arrested to face the weight of the law,” the police spokesperson said.

Shehu said normalcy is gradually returning to the affected Zamfara community.

KanyiDaily had also reported how a man identified as James Enock lost his wife and seven other family members during an attack by Fulani militia group in Kigudu community, Kaduna State.
