The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has invited over 40 companies for a live presentation and practical demonstration of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) that would be used for the forthcoming Ondo State governorship election.
INEC National Commissioner and Chairman (Information and Voter Education Committee), Festus Okoye, who disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday, said that eight companies had so far demonstrated their e-voting machines to the commission.
According to hm, the presentations was made through a combination of physical and virtual means, before an audience of its members and a team of directors and ICT staff.
“So far, eight companies have made presentations through a combination of physical and virtual means, before an audience of Commission members, a team of Directors and ICT Staff.
“Each company had 30 minutes for its presentation while the question and answer session was also allocated 30 minutes.
“The commission will continue to update Nigerians on the ongoing process in line with its efforts to deepen the use of technology in elections,” Okoye added.
KanyiDaily recalls that INEC had announced that it will try the use of e-voting machines during the Edo and Ondo governorship elections.
The commission noted that it will also “work towards the full introduction of electronic voting in major elections starting from 2021.”
