Garba Shehu Claims Only 10 Students Were Abducted By Bandits In Katsina School

Garba Shehu, Senior Special Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari, claims that only 10 students were abducted by bandits from Government Science Secondary School in Kankara Local Government Area of Katsina State.

KanyiDaily had reported how dozens of GSSS boarding students were abducted by bandits on Friday night, December 11, 2020, less than 24 hours after President Muhammadu Buhari arrived Katsina for a week long private visit.

Speaking on the development on Sunday, Katsina State Governor, Aminu Bello Masari, confirmed that 333 of the 839 pupils of the school are still missing after the invasion.

Governor Masari said that the missing children are from different parts of the state and even outside the state because the school is a boarding school.

However, BBC Hausa Service, in a bulletin on Sunday, quoted Garba Shehu as saying only ten school boys were abducted by the bandits.

“The Government of Nigeria has said its security forces have surrounded the location where gunmen have kept schoolchildren abducted from a secondary school in Katsina State.

“Spokesman for the President, Mallam Garba Shehu told the BBC only ten children were remaining in the hands of the gunmen according to their colleagues who escaped from the gunmen.

“The number is below figures released by school authorities at the beginning. Garba Shehu said the school children who escaped said 10 of their friends were still with their abductors,” the BBC Hausa bulletin reads.

This is coming after Katsina State Police Command revealed on Saturday that over 200 students have been rescued back to the school, adding that the police, Army and Nigerian Airforce are right now in the bush trying to rescue other students.
