Sharia Court Orders Probe Of Kano Singer Who Featured Married Woman In Music Video

An Upper Sharia Court in Kano on Tuesday ordered the police to investigate a popular Kano-based Hausa artiste, Dauda Kahutu, aka Rarara, for allegedly featuring a married woman, Maryam Muhammad, in his music video without the consent of her husband.

It was gathered that the woman’s husband, Abdulkadir Inuwa, 36, had filed a suit before the court alleging that the singer eloped with his 20-year-old wife and featured her in a recent music video, titled, “Jihata, Jihata ce.”

Inuwa told the court that for about three months, he did know the whereabouts of his wife, whom he lawfully married over five months ago.

“There was no quarrel between us. I only woke up one day and suddenly found her missing. Later, I saw her on Youtube singing and dancing with the singer (Rarara) and when I went to her family, they also told me they didn’t know her whereabouts,” he added.

Inuwa sought redress before the court, saying the act violated his fundamental human Right as a husband.

However, the counsel for the artiste, Muhammad Bello, told the court that Rarara did not know the woman in question and that his producer, Abubakar Bashir Maishada, was responsible for hiring dancers and paying them. He, therefore, urged the court to dismiss the case.

The presiding Shariah Judge, Ibrahim Yola, however, overruled the appeal and directed the Divisional Police Office of Kwali Quarters to investigate the singer, Maryam, and the producer and adjourned the matter till February 2, 2021.

KanyiDaily recalls that the Sharia Court had earlier sentenced a 60-year-old man, Mati Abdu, to death by stoning for raping a minor girl in Kano.
