Ekiti Government Imposes Curfew And Bans Public Gathering Due To COVID-19

In a bid to stop the spread of coronavirus diseases, the Ekiti State government has imposed a night curfew and banned public gatherings of more than twenty persons.

This was made known in a statement by the state commissioner for Information and Values Orientation, Akinbowale Omole, in Ado Ekiti on Sunday, January 10, 2021.

The curfew would commence on Monday, January 11, from 8.00 p.m. to 6.00 a.m. daily.

According to Omole, the government’s decision is necessary to make sure the citizens are safe from the second wave of the pandemic which has already claimed thousands of lives worldwide.

He added that the curfew will be strictly enforced and defaulters punished except those on essential services and also urged the citizens to observe the Covid-19 protocols.

He further states that faith will be allowed to observe their religious worships. Two services will take place on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, with the services ending before 2:00 pm.

All worship centers must provide necessary facilities for hand washing at the entrance and infra-red thermometers to check worshippers’ temperature before they are allowed in for service.

Omole added that the State Covid-19 Response Committee and other relevant enforcement agencies would be involved to ensure total compliance with the directives.

“The State Covid-19 Response Committee put in place by Ekiti State Government and other relevant enforcement agencies would be going round to ensure compliance with these directives and any person or group of persons caught violating the guidelines put in place to curtail the pandemic in the state will be prosecuted and sanctioned accordingly.”
