Popular Nigerian singer, Wizkid has made history after his 2017 single “Come Closer” featuring Drake was certified Platinum in Canada.
Music Canada announced the Platinum certification via its verified Twitter page on Friday, January 15, 2021.
“Come Closer,” the 2017 single by Nigerian artist @wizkidayo ft. @Drake, is now officially certified Canadian Platinum!” the tweet reads.
Music Canada, an association which represent the interests of companies that record, manufacture, produce, and distribute music in Canada.
According to their site, Music Canada recognizes the following Single Award tiers: Gold: 40,000 Units. Platinum: 80,000 Units. Multi-Platinum: 160,000 Units (increments of 80,000 thereafter).
“Come Closer” is the first song by an African-based artiste to go platinum in Canada. So it officially makes Wizkid the first African musician to be certified platinum in Canada.
