Goods and properties worth millions of Naira has been destroyed during a fire outbreak at the Cairo Market in the Oshodi-Isolo Local Government Area of Lagos State.
It was learnt that the inferno started around 8pm on Thursday, May 6, and affected the fabric section of the market.
Although the cause of the fire was not known as of the time of filing this report, it was gathered goods worth millions of naira have been razed as many of the shops were affected by the fire.
The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Nosa Okunbor, said the extent of the damage could not be ascertained at press time, but some lock-up shops were affected.
LASEMA said that the Eagle Squad and the Fire Unit were immediately deployed to the scene and are battling to contain the fire.
“Consequent upon arrival at the scene, it was discovered that some key clamp shops were engulfed with fire,” the agency said.
“The cause of the fire could not be ascertained as at the time of filing in this report.
“Fortunately, no record of loss of lives but goods worth fortune were lost to the inferno.
“The LASEMA Response Team, its Fire Unit and Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service have been able to [prevent] the fire from escalating further.”
