Armed bandits on Saturday killed at least 12 security personnel during an attack on Forward Operating Base in Mutumji, Dansadau Local Government of Zamfara State.
It was gathered that three other personnel were wounded during the attack on the military base at Mutumji, Dansadau, about 80 kilometres south of the capital, Gusau, at about 10:30 a.m.
Peoples Gazette learnt from military sources that the 12 fatalities comprises of nine Nigerian Air Force officers, two police officers, and one Nigerian Army soldier.
All slain personnels were evacuated to Yerima Bakura Specialist Hospital in Gusau and the three wounded have been receiving treatments at a brigade medical facility.
The bandits were said to have carted away weapons and other equipment from the slain security personnel while also setting ablaze other parts of the military base.
The Nigerian Army, Air Force, or any security agencies have not confirmed the incident at the time of filing this report on Sunday.
The attack comes a few days after Zamfara State Governor, Bello Matawalle declared war on bandits, saying that his administration is no longer interested in dialoguing with them or granting amnesty.
