President Muhammadu Buhari has arrived in Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia, for the inauguration of Prime Minister, Abiy Ahmed, for another five-year term in office.
Buhari’s aircraft, Nigerian Air Force 001, touched down at the newly built VIP Terminal of Bole International Airport at 5.06 pm (Nigerian time).
The Nigerian President, who was accorded a full guard of honour by the Ethiopian National Defence Force, was received by Prime Minister Ahmed.
After the inspection of the guard of honour, Ahmed personally drove Buhari in a waiting SUV, to the newly built friendship park for a private dinner, attended by the President of Ethiopia, Sahle-Work Zewde, and the President of Senegal, Macky Sall.

While in Addis Ababa, President Buhari is expected to deliver a goodwill message at the inauguration event scheduled to hold at Meskel Square. He will also attend a State Dinner at the National Defence Headquarters.
Buhari will join other African leaders, who will attend the event in person, including the Presidents of Djibouti, Kenya, South Sudan, Senegal, Somalia, Uganda and the Prime Minister of the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Reacting on his Facebook page, Buhari’s personal assistant on new media, Bashir Ahmad, gushed about the respect and honour the Nigerian leader elicits from other African leaders.
He wrote; “The respect most of African leaders have for President Buhari is second to none, the Ethiopian Prime Minister today after receiving the President at the Airport also offered to personally drive him to where he’d be staying in Addis Ababa.”
This comes two years after President Buhari traveled Addis-Ababa, Ethiopia, for the 33rd Ordinary Session of the Heads of State and Government of the African Union (AU).
