Twitter Was Never Banned In Nigeria Because Of President Buhari – Lai Mohammed

Lai Mohammed says Twitter suspension has nothing to do with President Muhammadu Buhari.

The Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed has clarified that Twitter was not banned in Nigeria but only suspended.

Mohamed stated this on Tuesday while answering questions from stakeholders and participants at Nigeria International Partnership Forum in Paris, France.

The minister also denied reports that the Twitter operation was suspended in Nigeria because it deleted a tweet by President Muhammadu Buhari.

He explained that Twitter has met 10 out of the 12 conditions given to it by the Nigerian government, adding that all issues are expected to be resolved soon.

Lai Mohammed Speaks On Twitter Ban In Nigeria

Lai Mohammed said: ”I want to categorically say that Twitter was not banned by Nigeria, it was only suspended. So, Twitter was never banned, it was suspended. Also, the suspension has nothing to do with President Muhammadu Buhari.

“The correspondence between us and Twitter have reached an advanced stage. I want to say that the correspondence and the exchanges have been fruitful.

“But we have a few more issues to resolve. Out of about 12 conditions, Twitter has been able to meet 10. Very soon, all issues will be resolved in a way that will be good for both our country and Twitter.”

This comes two months after Lai Mohammed has assured Nigerians that the Federal Government will lift the ban on Twitter in “a few more days”.
