“He Has Sacrificed More For Nigeria” – Shettima Supports Tinubu’s Presidential Bid

Shettima asked the APC to zone its 2023 presidential ticket to the south and give it to Tinubu.

Former Governor of Borno state, Kashim Shettima has declared support for the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu, who recently declared his interest to contest for the presidency in the forthcoming 2023 general election.

Shettima Backs Tinubu’s Presidential Ambition

Speaking at a Tinubu support group press conference in Abuja on Monday, Shettima said the APC leader has sacrificed for the country, and that citizens owe him a debt of gratitude.

Shettima said Tinubu deserved the right of first refusal for his diligence in birthing the APC and securing the 2015 presidential ticket for President Muhammadu Buhari.

He said, “In 2015, some aspirants with very huge war chest were itching to clinch the ticket of the APC. Like the Rock of Gibraltar, Asiwaju and his progressive team stood solidly behind the candidature of President Muhamadu Buhari.

“My simple question, distinguished ladies and gentlemen is, where were the new members of what I call ‘the Buhari’s church of latter days’ saints’; where were they?

“We knew where their political loyalty lay in that particular convention when Buhari emerged as the presidential candidate of the APC. Where were they?

“Some people say everything goes in politics. Not everything goes in politics. We shall have minimal thresholds below which we won’t operate and the irreducible minimum is that after eight years of presidency in the North, the logic, common sense, equity, justice and fairness demand that power should move to the southern part of the country.

“And who is better qualified? Asiwaju Ahmed Bola Tinubu should be given the choice of first refusal. More than any other person, he has sacrificed more for this democracy; for the APC.”

“I’m not asking you to tone down critical assessments of your future leaders, but redirect you to see the bigger picture. We are not here to prepare for the Olympics, but an institution that relies on the superiority of ideas to thrive. Asiwaju’s credentials aren’t only appealing; they are proof of the qualities this country needs to redeem its vast potentials and possibilities.

“We are here to testify to this power of ideas, one that overturned the fortunes of Lagos State and sustained its supremacy as the largest economy in subSaharan Africa and kept the opposition alive when it was more profitable to sell out.

Speaking on the concerns that have been raised about Tinubu’s age, the senator said leadership is not about lifting a bag of cement.

“One of such is the mischievous fixation on his age and the wild conclusions that he’s physically unsuitable for the office of the president,” he said.

“This obsession characterizes the thinking of those who have no understanding of Asiwaju’s incredible work ethic.

“The mark of true leadership isn’t the ability to lift a bag of cement. It’s the mental effort to think rationally of solutions designed to redeem one’s people and territorial jurisdiction.”

KanyiDaily recalls that Bola Tinubu had given more insight into his 2023 presidential ambition, saying that becoming Nigeria’s president has been his lifelong dream.
