Bandits have reportedly written a letter where they demanded the sum of N24 million levy on nine communities in Bukkuyum Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
According to Daily Trust, the levied communities are Gaude, Tungar Gebe, Wawan Iccen Ibrahim, Wawan Iccen Salihu, Galle, Nannarki, Ruwan Kura, Gangara, and Yargalma.
It was gathered that the bandits threatened to attack the communities if the levies were not paid promptly. The levies are ranging from N500,000 to N5 million.
A resident said that the letters were delivered to the communities through released captives, adding that district heads who have seen the letter alerted the authorities about the development,
He said, “The levied communities cut across four districts and some of the villages have started mobilizing to pay the money to avoid raids by the armed criminals.”
The development is coming some days after 143 bodies were recovered and buried following the brutal killing of over 200 people by bandits in five communities in Zamfara.
