Drug Trafficking: DCP Abba Kyari’s Wife Slumps In Court As Judge Denies Him Bail

The woman slumped and fell on the floor while NDLEA operatives were leading Abba Kyari and others away from the court premises

Ramatu Yakubu Kyari, the wife of the suspended commander of the Intelligence Response Team (IRT), DCP Abba Kyari has slumped at the Federal High Court in Abuja.

Ramatu Yakubu Kyari Slumps In Court

Ramatu slumped shortly after Justice Emeka Nwite adjourned the bail application for her husband and six other persons facing drug trafficking charges to March 28, 2022.

The woman, who wore a black hijab, collapsed to the floor while operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) were leading Kyari and others out of the courtroom.

Though she appeared lifeless on the floor, she was quickly carried up and rushed inside one of the offices on the third floor of the court by some officials of the NDLEA and lawyers.

The development delayed the NDLEA officers from conveying the defendants to their office as they waited for Kyrai outside the court premises for about 45 minutes before he was led into the waiting vehicle.

One of the persons that accompanied Ramatu to the court said she is asthmatic. Kyari’s wife later came out with the aid of members of families and friends who assisted her out of the court

Justice Nwite fixed March 28 for ruling on the bail motion filed by Ramatu’s husband and others after their lawyers and the prosecution counsel argued their position for and against the request.

KanyiDaily recalls that he NDLEA had arraigned Kyari and six others defendants before the Federal High Court in Abuja on an eight-count charge, bordering on conspiracy, obstruction, and dealing in cocaine, and other related offences.

Four of the six other defendants are members of the police intelligence response team — Sunday J. Ubia, Bawa James, Simon Agirigba and John Nuhu.

The two others are alleged drug traffickers that were arrested at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport in Enugu, Chibunna Patrick Umeibe and Emeka Alphonsus Ezenwanne.

Last week, two of the defendants, Umeibe and Ezenwanne pleaded guilty after the eight-count charges were read to them, but Abba Kyari and the officers denied the offences.
