Blackout Across Nigeria As National Grid Collapses Again – Third Time In One Month

Many parts of Nigeria have been plunged into darkness after the national grid suffered a system collapse on Friday — the third incident in less than one month.

National Grid Collapses

Some power distribution companies confirmed in separate messages on Friday evening that the national electricity grid suffered another collapse, while urging Nigerians to be patient.

In a post shared on its Twitter page, the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) announced the development saying that the collapse had resulted in power outage in its area of operation, which covered about five states.

AEDC tweeted, “Hello, please be informed that there has just been a national grid collapse causing an outage in our franchise areas. We apologise for the inconvenience caused and appeal that you bear with us while we await restoration from the TCN. We regret all inconvenience caused.”

Also, the management of Kaduna Electricity in a statement signed by Abdulazeez Abdullahi, its head of Corporate Communication, confirmed that the power grid collapsed at 6:29pm.

The statement reads, “Dear Esteemed Customers, the management of Kaduna Electric regrets to inform you that the current outage being experienced in our franchise states is due to a collapse of the national grid.

“The collapse occurred at about 18:29 pm this evening. Normal power supply shall be restored as soon as the grid is restored. We sincerely apologise for all inconveniences.”

The Eko Electricity Distribution Company also announced the grid collapse affected its entire network and urged Nigerians to be patient.

EKEDC said, “Good evening everyone. We regret to inform you that the current outage affecting our entire network is due to system collapse.

“TCN team is working to resolve it as soon as possible. Sincere apologies for the inconveniences caused. Please, bear with us.”

KanyiDaily recalls that last month, Nigeria’s power grid collapsed twice and worsened the energy crisis nationwide, as Nigerians had to contend with fuel scarcity and power outages across the country.
