The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has released a former speaker of the house of representatives, Patricia Etteh, who was arrested over an allegation of fraud.
Etteh, who was Speaker between June 6, 2007, and October 30, 2007, was arrested in Abuja on Tuesday by EFCC operatives for allegedly receiving a suspicious payment of N130 million.
The money was allegedly paid to Etteh by a contractor of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) who was awarded a solar-powered electrification project in Akwa Ibom state.
In a statement on Saturday, EFCC spokesperson, Wilson Uwujaren said Etteh was released on Friday after fulfilling her bail conditions, noting that the former speaker is expected to report to its office “periodically to assist further investigations”.
