Kanyi Daily News gathered that the raging gunmen stormed St. Francis Catholic Church, Owa-luwa street, in Owo Local Government Area killing over 50 members of the congregation, during the church service.
Aside from those that were killed, many other people reportedly sustained severe injuries.
Tee-Leo Ikoro, Police Public Relations Officer for Ondo command, confirmed the incident in a telephone interview.
“I have been briefed about the incident that happened but we are currently investigating,” he said.
The gunmen also used explosives within the Church compound.
The terrorists fled the scene immediately after, leaving behind a gory sight.
It was gathered that no fewer than 50 corpses have been moved out of the church with many casualties lying at the Federal Medical Center, Owo, for medical attention.
