The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested 140 suspected internet fraudsters, popularly known as “Yahoo Boys” in Ikorodu area of Lagos State.
The spokesperson of the commission, Wilson Uwujaren, who disclosed this on Thursday, said the suspects were arrested in two hotels following credible intelligence on their alleged involvement in internet-related fraud.
According to him, the suspects, between 16 and 42 years, were nabbed in separate sting operations at Lakers Lounge Hotel and Bar and De Butlers Hotel in Ikorodu.
Uwujaren, however, stated that four of the suspects were released after the EFCC discovered that no incriminating item was in their possession.
He listed the items recovered from other suspects to include exotic cars, electronic devices, laptops, and mobile phones, adding that they would be charged to court as soon as investigations were concluded.
