Enugu State Police Command has confirmed the death of three officers killed by gunmen along Upper Chime Avenue, New Haven, Enugu, the state capital.
The command’s spokesman, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, who confirmed the incident in a statement on Thursday, said the three policemen were on night patrol when they encountered the gunmen in a Lexus Jeep, who opened fire on them.
Ndukwe said the development led to three police operatives sustaining severe gunshot wounds and later confirmed dead at the hospital.
He said, “Intensive manhunt operation is ongoing to fish out the unknown assailants that suddenly opened fire on a moving Police patrol van on duty, along Chime Avenue, New Haven, Enugu, on 07/09/2022 at about 10.15pm, leading to three (3) of the Operatives sustaining severe gunshots wounds and later confirmed dead at the hospital.
The police spokesperson said that the command is already on the trail of the attackers, adding that “further development will be communicated, please”.
