Police Rescue Christians Abducted During Vigil In Ekiti Church

The Ekiti State Police Command has announced the rescue of worshippers who were kidnapped during an attack on a Christ Apostolic Church prayer gathering in Eda-Oniyo on April 28.

The incident occurred during a night vigil when about five gunmen invaded the church’s prayer ground.

The attackers reportedly killed the pastor before abducting several members of the congregation.

In a statement released on Saturday, the command’s spokesperson, Sunday Abutu, said the victims regained their freedom after a series of intelligence-driven operations carried out by a joint security team.

The rescued victims have since been taken to the hospital for medical examination and treatment to ascertain their health condition and ensure they receive adequate medical care,” the statement reads.

The Commissioner of Police, CP FALADE ADEGOROYE MICHEAL, commends the dedication, professionalism, and synergy exhibited by all security stakeholders whose collective efforts culminated in the successful rescue of the victims.

“He particularly appreciates the Ekiti State Government under the leadership of His Excellency, Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji, for its unwavering support to the security agencies, which greatly contributed to the success of the operation.

“The Commissioner also thanks the good people of Ekiti State for their continuous cooperation, vigilance, and timely provision of credible information.”

The command said efforts are ongoing to track down and arrest those responsible for the attack and kidnapping.

It added that the police remain committed to protecting lives and property across the state.

Police also urged members of the public to continue reporting suspicious individuals or activities to the nearest police station or through the command’s emergency line, 08062335577.
