Festus Keyamo, the spokesman for the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council, has asked Christian leaders to stop meddling in politics.
Minister of Labour and Employment stated that while reacting to the condemnation of the APC presidential ticket by the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN).
The PFN recently distanced itself from a group known as the Pentecostal Bishops Forum of Northern Nigeria whose members met with the APC presidential aspirant, Bola Tinubu last weekend.
The group said it has no affiliation with clergymen that visited Tinubu, stressing that the APC Muslim-Muslim ticket remains unacceptable by the Christian community in Nigeria.
Reacting during an interview with Channels Television on Sunday, Keyamo said the PFN has no right to criticise the decisions of the ruling party.
Keyamo who was visibly livid queried: “Is the PFN or CAN a member or structure of APC? The vice presidential candidate is a decision of our party leaders.”
“The PFN are not members of our party, they should not be coming to question the decision of our party publicly. The duty of pastors is to lead people to heaven, not to lead people to Villa [the seat of power in Nigria].
“They are called by God to lead to heaven. If I go to Church every Sunday, I want to hear the sermon of God, not the sermon of politics on who should rule me. I want to listen to them talk about salvation, not villa.
“It is our party’s decision. These external bodies are not part of us. If they want to take part in the decision-making process, they can as well come and join the political party. But they cannot stay outside and dictate to us how to conduct our affairs.
“If it is so offensive to certain persons, there is no need for the noise. They have options.”
Keyamo argued that Nigerians would like to see policies that will address their hunger rather than bothering about their faiths.
“Nigerians are hungry, they want to see how that hunger will be addressed, not how their Christian or Muslim faiths will be addressed.
“They want to see our policies on agriculture and what Asiwaju has done before as governor of Lagos State, how he improved Lagos and how he will bring that kind of posterity to Nigeria as a whole,” he said.
KanyiDaily recalls that Festus Keyamo said Bola Tinubu will rule Nigeria exactly like President Muhammadu Buhari if elected president in 2023.
