Ahead of the 2023 general election, the Oba of Benin, Oba Ewuare II told the Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar on Saturday, that God will choose the country’s next president.
Oba Ewuare II started this when he received Atiku and his team at his palace.
He wished the PDP presidential candidate well in his bid to lead the country and charged him to fulfill his campaign promises if he is given the mandate to lead.
“Your Excellency, we have been following your statements and assurances, we pray to God Almighty and our ancestors that you have good health, and wisdom to bring it to fruition, should you be the chosen one to lead this Country.
“We have you in our prayers, no doubt, we will keep on praying to God Almighty to select who will lead this country. I do not see reasons why we should doubt anyone of you.”
Atiku had earlier in a remark, described the Oba of Benin as one of the foremost fathers who have a lot to contribute to the smooth transition of the next democratic government.
“You preside over a very ancient and historical kingdom. There is no way we can come to Edo State without paying a courtesy call. Therefore, let me thank you on behalf of members of this delegation for granting us an audience and we also seek your prayers for a peaceful transition in our Country, unity, peace, and prosperity,” Atiku said.
Meanwhile, Kanyi Daily reported that the PDP said Atiku remains a symbol of national unity and a pan-Nigerian leader.
