NDLEA Arrests 192 Suspected Drug Traffickers In Ebonyi

A total of 192 suspected drug traffickers were arrested by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) between January and September in Ebonyi State.

This was disclosed by the NDLEA Commander in the state, Iyke Uche during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Abakaliki, the state capital.

Uche also said the agency seized 113.414 kilogrammes of cannabis sativa.

According to him, 0.0621kgs methamphetamine, locally known as Mkpurummiri, was also seized within the period under review.

“The seizures were made by our personnel in different locations across communities in the state,” Uche said.

On the level of drug trafficking in the state, the commander said Ebonyi had low drug business but many consumers.

“There is no prevalence drug business here in Ebonyi but there are consumers. We counselled a total of 92 drug users in the state in the period under review.

“Ebonyi is a crime-prone state like the issue gunmen attack and other criminalities. Most crimes usually take place with the intake of drugs. Of course, there are drug-enhanced violence crimes.

“So, we will intensify efforts on sensitisations. We are going to strengthen campaigns in schools to nip drug abuses in the bud in the state,” the Commander said.

The NDLEA boss reiterated the state’s agency commitment to work in tune with the vision of the NDLEA against drug abuse and trafficking.

The commander sought media support for more sensitisations campaigns in the state in order in curtailing the menace of illicit substances in the state.

Meanwhile, Kanyi Daily reported that nine Ghanaians have been jailed for 72 years for attempting to smuggle cannabis into Nigeria.
