Two people have been killed and many others injured during an attack by gunmen at a Celestial Church of Christ (CCC) in the Felele axis of Lokoja, Kogi state capital.
It was gathered that the incident happened on Sunday evening when the gunmen invaded the church premises and started shooting sporadically, forcing worshippers to scamper for safety.
An eyewitness said, “when they entered, they started shooting at every one outside the church. I now went and hid inside a cassava farm. What I saw yesterday was like an action film in a movie. Kogi is no longer safe”
Two persons were reportedly shot dead while several worshippers were injured and taken to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Lokoja for treatment.
Kogi police spokesperson, William Aya, who confirmed the incident on Monday, said the police division in Falele received the report of the shooting around 7 pm.
Aya disclosed that Edward Egbuka, Kogi police spokesperson, has ordered an investigation into the circumstances that led to the incident.
“It was a distress call that the Divisional Police Officer of B Division Felele received that hoodlums invaded a Celestial Church behind NNPC mega station and they began shooting. Two people were confirmed dead in the hospital, while three are receiving treatment.
“The Commissioner of Police has deployed our operatives, and ordered the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the investigation, to commence an investigation to unravel the cause of the attack with a view to arresting the perpetrators,” he said.
