A former Kaduna Senator, Shehu Sani has reacted to the coup attempt in Sao Tome and Principe.
Kanyi Daily earlier reported that the Prime Minister of the country, Patrice Trovoada in a press briefing said the coup was foiled after military barracks came under attack early on Friday.
“We were targeted by an attempted coup, which began around 00:40 [00:40 GMT] and was completed … shortly after 06:00 [06:00 GMT],” he said.
At least six people have reportedly been detained.
Taking to his Twitter handle on Friday evening, Sani said it is a big relief to hear that the coup in Sao Tomé and Príncipe was foiled.
According to him, it is sad to see the resurgence of military coups in West Africa.
He wrote, “It’s a big relief to hear that the coup in São Tomé and Príncipe was foiled. It’s sad to see the resurgence of military coups in West Africa.”
