ICPC Re-Arrests Former JAMB Registrar, Dibu Ojerinde

The Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission (ICPC) has re-arrested the former Registrar of the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Adedibu Ojerinde.

Ojerinde, who is already facing trial for allegedly diverting public funds totalling about N5 billion, was arrested on Thursday at the premises of the Federal High Court in Abuja.

He was arrested by operatives of the ICPC after Jimoh Olabisi, former deputy director at JAMB, alleged that the former registrar used him to divert federal government funds.

Olabisi, a witness of the ICPC, had in his Evidence-In-Chief before the court, made indicting revelations that were not part of the charge already pending against the Defendant.

He told the court on Wednesday that he was in charge of opening accounts for JAMB and admitted to opening an account in the name of JAMB/J.O. Olabisi in a commercial bank on the instruction of Ojerinde.

The ICPC had arraigned Ojerinde on July 6, 2021, on an 18-count charge bordering on alleged misappropriation of funds to the tune of N5.2 billion.

The commission alleged that the former registrar committed multiple frauds while heading JAMB and the National Examination Council (NECO).

Ojerinde pleaded not guilty to the allegations and was granted bail in the sum of N200 million. He was released from detention after fulfilling his bail conditions.

The former JAMB registrar was re-arrested at the court premises on Thursday while he was heading to his car with one of his sons, after trial Justice Obiora Egwatu adjourned further proceedings till February 15.

KanyiDaily had reported how the ICPC previously arrested the former JAMB registrar, Dibu Ojerinde, for allegedly misappropriating N900 million.
