#NigeriaDecides2023 – INEC Announce Ekiti Election Results, Postpone Other states

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially announced Ekiti Election results while Professor Mahmood Yakubu also officially postponed the announcement of the results from other states to tomorrow.

Recall that Mahmood in his first press conference at the collation center earlier today said:

”collation of presidential election result in Nigeria is done at four levels after the conclusion of voting, counting and recording of results at Polling Unit level. The results are first tallied and collated at the 8,809 Registration Areas (or Wards). The collated Wards level results are tallied and collated at the 774 Local Government Areas nationwide. Thereafter, they are tallied and collated at each of the 36 States of the Federation and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). The collated figures for each State and FCT are finally collated here in Abuja where the announcement of the outcome of the election is made.

He adjoined to resume at 6pm today.

At resumption at 6pm, INEC released the first official results from Saturday’s election.

Nigeria’s ruling party presidential candidate Bola Tinubu won the most votes in Ekiti State.

Below is the breakdown of how the parties fared in Ekiti.

Ekiti Election Results – presidential

APC – 201,494

LP – 11,397

NNPP – 264

PDP – 89,554

After the announcement of the first result, INEC chairman Mahmood Yakubu decided to adjoin AGAIN to tomorrow Monday 27th, at 11am.

It’s important to note that The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has so far uploaded less than 30 percent of presidential election results to its results viewing portal (IReV).

As of Sunday afternoon, out of the more than 176,8460 polling units where results are to be uploaded, only 41,649 have been uploaded to the portal.

The IReV portal was part of the technologies introduced by the commission to improve the transparency of the electoral process.

Although voting ended in some places on Saturday, the portal was inactive for a long time, raising concerns from civil society and observer groups.

Meanwhile, The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially confirmed and acknowledged that the institution is having challenges with the INEC Result Viewing Portal (IReV).
