Founder of Silverbird group and former Bayelsa Senator, Ben Murray Bruce has described Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele as “God sent to this nation.”
Ben Murray Bruce also claimed Emefiele is being targeted by desperate politicians in the country.
Ben Murray Bruce disclosed this in a tweet on his official Twitter handle.
He said for the first time in forever, vote buying will be almost eliminated, in relation to the CBN’s naira redesign policy and the limit placed on cash withdrawals by the apex bank.
It is believed that CBN’s policy is targeted at politicians who rely on vote buying to get into power. Nigeria’s general election is less than two weeks away.
The issue of vote buying remains a big challenge for Nigeria’s electoral system. It is widely believed that politicians buy votes from poor electorates on election days.
According to Bruce, in a country with “130 million multidimensionally poor people, this is a giant step for democracy.”
He, therefore, urged Nigerians to pray for the CBN governor.
“I urge all patriotic Nigerians to pray for his safety as he is targeted by desperate politicians.”
The former Bayelsa lawmaker did not, however, state how the apex bank governor is targeted by desperate politicians.
Meanwhile, Kanyi Daily reported that members of the Council of State on Friday backed the naira redesign policy of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
However, the Council of State members asked the CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele to print new naira notes and make them available or recirculate the old notes to cushion the suffering of Nigerians.
