Gospel Singer, Mercy Chinwo Files N2billion Lawsuit Against Secular Musician, Obidiz

Gospel singer, Mercy Chinwo has filed a N2 billion lawsuit against a secular musician, Obidiz for using her name and photo to commercialize his song.

The upcoming artist has used Mercy Chinwo‘s name as the title of his song. He also used her to cite an example of a wayward, club-loving girl.

“She dey share me the cake, but she no want commit. Mercy Chinwo for church, but for club na Cardi B sef”, Obidiz said in the lyrics.

In the suit dated March 23, 2023, Mercy Chinwo dragged Obidiz to court for using her name and image derogatorily in his song without her permission.

Mercy’s lawyers have sent Obidiz a cease and desist letter, ordering him to remove the song from all musical platforms and take down any promotional video containing her image and clips from all social media platforms.

Obidiz is to tender an apology to Mercy privately and on social media. Failure to comply with her demands will lead to a legal battle and he will be ordered by the court to pay Mercy N2 billion for damages.
