“I’m A Committed Nigerian, I Don’t Have Any Dual Nationality” – Peter Obi Taunts Tinubu

The presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi has declared that he’s a commited Nigerian and he does not have dual citizenship.

Peter Obi stated this while reacting to the report circulating on social media that the president-elect, Bola Tinubu, has an international passport of Guinea Conakry.

KanyiDaily recalls that a journalist, David Hundeyin had accused Tinubu of having a Guinean diplomatic passport, stressing that the president-elect lied in his Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) EC9 declaration, that he does not have dual citizenship.

Tinubu’s Guinean passport is contrary to Section 137 (1) (a) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria which states that “A person shall not be qualified for election to the office of President if subject to the provisions of Section 28 of this Constitution, he has voluntarily acquired the citizenship of a country other than Nigeria or, except in such cases as may be prescribed by the National Assembly, he has made a declaration of allegiance to such other country.”

Speaking at the National Executive Council (NEC) meeting of the Labour Party in Asaba, Delta State on Tuesday, Peter Obi threw a jab at Tinubu over his alleged Guinean citizenship.

He said, “I’m a Nigerian. Committed Nigerian. I don’t have any dual nationality. So, this (Nigeria) is my own country.

“And I have said it that even if there is war outside this country and I’m outside, I will come back because this is my country.”

KanyiDaily recalls that Bola Tinubu was recently named in Time Magazine’s list of 100 most influential people in the world for the year 2023.
