Former Speaker, Gbajabiamila to Resign from National Assembly Following Chief of Staff Appointment

In a significant development, the Member representing Surulere 1 constituency is set to tender his resignation on Wednesday. This news comes as the former Speaker and newly appointed Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, prepares to step down from his position as a lawmaker in the House of Representatives today.

According to reliable sources at Channels TV, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) will be required to conduct a fresh election to fill the vacant role.

In May, KanyiDaily confirmed Gbajabiamila’s appointment as Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu.

President Tinubu himself announced the appointment, also appointing Sen. Ibrahim Hassan Hadejia as the Deputy Chief of Staff, a former Deputy Governor of Jigawa State.

Expressing his acceptance of the appointment on his Twitter handle, the House Speaker acknowledged that it would mark the end of his 20-year tenure in the National Assembly, having served an impressive four six-term periods in the legislature.
