Oscar-winning actor, Alan Arkin is dead. He died at the age of 89 in his home in California.
His death was confirmed by his three sons, Adam, Matthew, and Anthony in a statement on Friday.
“Our father was a uniquely talented force of nature, both as an artist and a man. A loving husband, father, grand and great grandfather, he was adored and will be deeply missed,” they said.
According to reports, Arkin won an Oscar for his role in the 2006 dark comedy Little Miss Sunshine, and a Tony in 1963 for Enter Laughing.
Born in Brooklyn in 1934 but moved to Los Angeles 11 years later when his father David, a painter, began working in Los Angeles as a set designer.
However, Arkin’s father’s career later sank, but he didn’t allow that to extinguish his enthusiasm for showbiz, which initially propelled him into a music career.
In 1957, Arkin and his group, the Tarriers, produced a hit single in the form of The Banana Boat Song.
