32-Year-Old Suspected Drug Addict Strangulates Mother In Ogun

The police in Ogun State have arrested a 32-year-old suspected drug addict, Samson Sikiru, for strangulating his mother to death in the Ijebu Ode area of the state.

The spokesperson of the command, Omotola Odutola confirmed the incident.

According to reports, Samson who was said to have been on drugs for some time and being managed by his deceased mother, finally killed her at the Itanrin area of Ijebu Ode.

The suspect’s younger brother who was a night guard and was returning from his night shift reportedly alerted the neighbours when he noticed the lifeless body of the mother.

Samson was said to be away for some years, it was gathered but came back to celebrate the last Ileya festival with the mother two weeks ago.

A source in the area told newsmen that the suspect was apprehended after the neighbours discovered that he was behind the death of his mother and subsequently handed him over to the police.

The police image maker, Odutola, while confirming the incident, said the suspect was also a neuropsychiatric patient.

The police spokesperson said that occasionally family members used to tie him up to avoid him injuring himself or anyone.

“He had remained with his mother whom he visited during the Sallah celebrations, even though he is known for his retard tendency, but his condition was being managed to the best of the knowledge of his mother.

“It is not yet clear if there was any provocation by his mother, but preliminary investigation revealed that earlier the same day he was tied up in the house, only for him to lose himself and descended on his mother and strangled her.

“The body was seen laying on the bed on the arrival of SP Murphy, the DPO but, on closer observation, marks of violence were found around the deceased mother. Lacerations were discovered, found around her right leg, proving that there was force and violence.

“Samson Sikiru is still in the police custody, but, nothing much has been gotten from him, as he has not answered any coherent questions put across to him.”
