Recall that the West Africa regional bloc had given the military junta who seized power on July 26th, seven days to reinstate President Mohamed Bazoum or risk sanctions, including possible military action.
The seven days ultimatum expired on Sunday, August 6th.
Despite the sanction of the no-flight zone imposed on the country and the threat of possible military intervention, the coup leaders refused to back down and vowed to resist any foreign intervention on its soil.
Not done, the coupists also severed ties with Nigeria, Togo, France, and the US, and shut down Nigerien airspace indefinitely.
As the ultimatum expired, with no sign of the military junta stepping down, ECOWAS scheduled a meeting for Thursday to review the situation Niger.
Presidential spokesman, Ajuri Ngelale, who addressed State House correspondents on Tuesday, said more sanctions had been imposed on the individuals and entities relating with the military junta in the Niger Republic.
Although he did not go into details, he said this was carried out through the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
This is a developing story. More details shortly.
