Over two million voters are eligible to vote in Saturday’s gubernatorial election.
It features candidates from 18 political parties, although the focus remains on a three-horse race between the incumbent governor, Hope Uzodinma of the APC, Samuel Anyanwu of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and Athan Achonu of LP.
According to INEC, there are 2,419,922 registered voters in the state, but only 2,318,919 of them collected their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and are thereby eligible to cast their votes in the election.
The number of registered voters is 6.5 percent more than the 2,272,293 recorded for the previous 2019 elections in the southeastern state.
Kanyi Daily recalls that the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) had accused Imo State Hope Uzodinma of allegedly recruiting thugs to aid him in the ongoing governorship elections in the state.
