Obaseki Bemoans Economic Hardships, Calls For Collective Effort to Alleviate Suffering

Governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki expressed concern about Nigerians grappling with poverty and hunger, attributing their hardship to the tough prevailing economic conditions in the nation.

The governor made this statement in Bauchi yesterday after a confidential meeting with Bala Mohammed, the Governor of Bauchi State, who serves as the chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum.

He emphasized that it’s no longer news that the economic state has plunged millions of Nigerians into severe hardships.
Obaseki urged those in positions of authority to take intentional steps to rectify the situation for the well-being of everyone.

The governor highlighted the unforeseen developments, prompting the necessity for a collective effort to convene and brainstorm ideas on the most effective ways to address crucial national issues.

Things are very difficult now at this point as we know. Nigerians are suffering and it is unprecedented. I think we should stop lamenting and ask ourselves what do we do as leaders to reduce the suffering of our people,” he said.

Regarding his deputy, Philip Shaibu’s decision to run in the upcoming Edo State governorship election,  Obaseki affirmed Shaibu’s constitutional right to contest, saying the choice of who bears PDP’s flag going into the election, is in the hands of the teeming supporters of the party.

The relationship has been cordial. He wants to run for the seat I currently occupy and as a Nigerian, he has the constitutional right to that nobody can deny him. I am only one out of the millions of supporters of our party and I am not the only one to decide who becomes our party’s flagbearer,” Governor Obaseki said.

Kanyi Daily recalls that Godwin Obaseki of Edo State had promised to provide N500 million in monthly assistance to poor residents of the state to mitigate the effects of the Federal Government’s removal of fuel subsidy.
